In Torment At Christmas

For the vast majority of us, the holiday season around Christmas and New Years Eve is a time to have fun, drink, socialise and catch up with close friends and family, but for some unlucky people out there, it can be a time to dwell and remember those that are not around. While those that lose a loved one through ‘conventional’ means are able to grieve and obtain a certain level of closure there will always be the families and friends of people that have simply gone missing – there is no closure, no grieving, no certainty for these people. While we here at Lifetakers wish everybody a happy and safe Christmas and New Years, our hearts go out to those individuals who live with this reality day in and day out. Stay strong, never give up and we hope you see your loved ones again soon.

The Syndrome Of Decay & Hitler

Adolf Hitler PortraitErich Fromm, the well known personality theorist that one introduced in The Syndrome of Decay & Growth used to also study historical documents of prominent persons in history in an attempt to reconstruct a psychological portrait of said person. One of the more famous ones he conducted, that he thought demonstrated the epitome of the syndrome of decay, was Adolf Hitler, who he wrote several papers about.

The Syndrome of Decay & Growth

Eric Fromm (1900 – 1980) was a well known personality theorist who was initially part of the Freudian school of thought before breaking away. He suggests that people who are psychologically disturbed may also have the inability to love and fail to establish meaningful unions. He focused the bulk of his attention to three main psychological disorders which he used to put forward his ideas known as the ‘syndrome of decay’ and the ‘syndrome of growth’.

Schizophrenia: When The Martians Are Coming…

Schizophrenia is unfortunately one of those mental disorders that suffers from not only distorted media headlines but the affects of popular culture with over 70% of characters on television with said disorder portrayed as being violent with more than one in every five being portrayed as a murderer. Contributions from these sources have helped create the commonly held belief that not only does schizophrenia mean a sufferer has a split personality but that people with this disorder are dangerous. The truth of the matter is, and research supports these facts, that people who suffer from schizophrenia are no more violent than people who do not have the illness.

Migration Complete

Hi everyone,
As you may or may not have noticed we had some server issues the last 24 hours. We have recently migrated to a new server running higher versions of some of the languages we use. All went according to plan until we updated our DNS information – but we have now rectified those issues and all our articles are available again.

Anxiety & Panic – Causes & Descriptions

Anxiety disorders are by and large easier to treat than some personality disorders but their affects are no less incapacitating than any other psychological disorder. In this article one will cover off what exactly is an anxiety disorder, the different anxiety disorders that there are including giving a brief description of each, as well as touching on the general causes of such disorders.

Teleportation Achieved!?!?

This has absolutely nothing to do with the purpose of this website but is absolutely amazing – i heard about these experiments a few years ago in one of my university subjects, but to hear they actually achieve it is something entirely different.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – For the first time, scientists have successfully teleported information between two separate atoms in unconnected enclosures a meter apart – a significant milestone in the global quest for practical quantum information processing.

Paranoid Personality Disorder

Introduction
The paranoid personality disorder is not only sometimes difficult to diagnose but treatment can be even more troublesome. The main features of this disorder entail the sufferer to be excessively distrustful and suspicious of any and all people with no real justification for why.

Personality Disorder Clusters

According to the DSM-IV-TR (Diagnostic & Statistical Manual, Fourth Edition, Text Revision) personality disorders are described as “enduring patterns of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and oneself that are exhibited in a wide range of social and personal contexts” and “are inflexible and maladaptive, and cause significant functional impairment or subjective distress”. In this article we will discuss the different personality disorders and the clusters in which they fall.

Website Expansion

For those of you that frequent our site, it will come as no surprise to you that we have expanded the articles we were/are planning to write. We had always planned on running two individual websites – one dedicated to case files and forensics (lifetakers.com) and one dedicated to the psychology of killers and general abnormal psychological disorders (bloodsoaked-memories.com). This has proved harder to do than expected; in saying that, we have decided to merge both websites as we hadn’t even begun adding content to the second, and given the amount of time, effort, money and coding/design involved in ‘re-inventing the wheel’ we have decided to simply alter this website slightly and start adding the content here instead.

Crime Scene Basics – First Responder & Forensics

The various forensic disciplines may run a vast number of tests once evidence has been collected from a crime scene but there is an immense amount of work that needs to be conducted before they get to this stage. This article will focus on those procedures and the job of first responders, whether they are police, paramedics or other emergency services, as well as the roles of crime scene investigators once they are called out.

The Lockerbie Tragedy – Flight 103

In 1988 many horrific events occurred but our focus in this article will be on just one of these – a Pan American airlines flight en route from London to New York suddenly broke up in the air at just after 7pm on December 21st while at an altitude of 31,000 feet above Western Scotland. While the vast majority of you may not remember the actual event, one tends to believe that the second the name ‘Lockerbie’ is thrown into the mix the severity and heinous nature of the event may jog a few memories.

Joseph ‘The Kimberley Killer’ Schwab

Back in 1987 an individual dubbed ‘The Kimberley Killer’ by the media (due to the location the crimes were being committed) was on the loose murdering people in Western Australia and the Northern Territory’s outback. In total he killed only 5 people but did so more in an extended ’spree killing’ style.

Body Shape and Gender: Desirability Differences Diagram

I’ve noticed a lot of people being brought to this site courtesy of search terms such as ‘body shape and gender diagrams’ so decided to put these up in the hope they will help. Click on the image for the full scale image. These are courtesy (and in relation to results) from a journal paper written by Zellner, Harner and Adler (1989) and published in the ‘Journal of Abnormal Psychology’ under the title ‘Effects of Eating Abnormalities and Gender on Perceptions of Desirable Body Shape’.

The Uiryeong Massacre

Woo Bum-kon
For a reason that i have been unable to put a finger on, six of the top seventeen cases of murder/mass murder/serial killing have taken place in Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea). This could be due to any number of reasons, the first one that comes to mind is population size, but i’ve not done any research into this so it is simply guess work at the moment.
